The Mayflower commemorations

The Mayflower commemorations will include high-profile plantings in cities, towns and villages that have associations with the Mayflower story. Bassetlaw District Council, which is leading the initiative for the Pilgrim Roots area, is contacting other Mayflower destinations and inviting them to accept a ‘Pilgrim 400’ tree for the purpose.

In addition, there is an exciting opportunity for schools, civic and community groups anywhere to be involved. They may apply for one of a limited edition of 40 ‘Pilgrim 400’ apple trees grown especially for the occasion. A certificate of authenticity will accompany each tree and successful applicants will be able to organise their own commemorative plantings.

The trees will be supplied as two-year old maidens on MM106 rootstocks in 5-litre pots and ready to plant straight away. The cost will be £45 and the proceeds will be used to plant more trees.

This offer is open to schools, civic and community groups anywhere although those in Mayflower destinations will have priority: Austerfield, Boston, Dartmouth, Gainsborough, Harwich, Immingham, Leiden, Rotherhithe, Scrooby & Babworth, Plymouth Devon, Plymouth Massachusetts, Southampton and Worcester.
